One of my homegrown watermelons, a tiny one but tasted great.
A view across my front yard. Decomposed red rock with a dry stream border
One of my homemade ollas, a great tool for minimizing watering in the hot dry summers on the Plains
My pollinator lawn. A single yellow flower in the foreground.
A jar of my bread and butter pickles. Delicious!
Panmarino rolls: a tender dough with mashed potatoes and flavored with roasted garlic and rosemary.

About Us

Me. Just me next to a one of my sunflowers. There's a monarch butterfly too.
My rabbitbrush in bloom. Beautiful, but with a definite funk to it.

My Story

I moved out to a small town on the Eastern Plains of Colorado to teach at the local junior college.  After a year or so, I bought my first house (ever) and set to work fixing up the yard for my new wife and our soon-to-be child.

New homeowner, never did any major landscaping prior, I tried to find someone to hire to help me, but couldn't.  I had to learn how to do almost everything on my own.

And learn I did.  A few years on, I'm proud of my new low-water use landscape:  it's beautiful and I put some of the water I save to growing food for friends, family, and others.

You can do this too, you can make your yard fit your personality, using fewer resources without sacrificing beauty.  I can help.

Oh, and if you're here for some good food, I got that too!
